About The District

Ujjain is a tier 2 city, the largest city in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It serves as the headquarters of both Ujjain district and Ujjain Division. Ujjain is a central power city, having significant influence on the fields of commerce, finance, media, arts, fashion, research, technology, education and entertainment and has been described as the commercial capital of the state. Ujjain city is located on the southern edge of the Malwa Plateau, 190 km west of the capital Bhopal.

Climate
Due to Ujjain’s location in central India and being away from the sea, it has a moderate to extreme climate.

Winter: In winter (November to February) the night temperature is around 10oC. In extreme winter the temperature reaches 2 to 3oC.

Summer: During summer (April-June) the temperature ranges from 35-40oC. In extreme summers the temperature reaches up to 45oC. However, unlike other places in central India, Ujjain has a special summer night. Due to its location on the southern edge of the Malwa plateau, it can be hot during the day but cool breeze starts blowing in the late evening making the evening quite pleasant, which is called Shab-e-Malwa.

Rainy Season: Ujjain receives normal rainfall of 30-35 inches during the months of July to September due to the south-east monsoon.

General Boundaries

Ujjain district is bordered by Agar Malwa district in the north, Shajapur in the east, Indore in the south and Ratlam district in the west.

Topography
Ujjain district consists of 11 tehsils namely Ujjain City, Ujjain Rural, Ujjain Kothi Mahal, Ghatia, Tarana, Makdon, Mahindpur, Jharda, Badnagar, Khachrod and Nagda.The number of blocks in the district is 6 (consisting of 31 police stations). At present, after delimitation of parliamentary and assembly constituencies, there are 7 assembly constituencies in this district: Ujjain (North), Ujjain (South), Khachrod-Nagda, Mahindpur, Tarana, Ghatia and Badnagar.

Crops

The major crops of the district are wheat, black gram, Bengal gram, green gram, lentil, pea, soybean.
