About District

Ujjain is a Tier 2 city, by population, in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is the headquarters of both Ujjain district and Ujjain division. A central power city, Ujjain exerts significant influence on commerce, finance, media, arts, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment and has been described as the commercial capital of the state. Located on the southern edge of the Malwa Plateau, the city lies 190 km west of the state capital, Bhopal.

Climat

Ujjain has a moderate to extreme climate due to its location in central India (about 76o E, 23o N), away from the sea. Winter: In winters (November to February) the minimum night temperature is around 10oC. At the peak of winters it may go as low as 2 to 3oC. The minimum recorded is +1.5oC. Summer: During summers (April-June) the days are hot (35-40oC) and in peak summers (May) the day temperatures sometimes touch 45c. However, unlike other places in central India, Ujjain has a special summer nights. Being located on the southern edge of the Malwa plateau, no matter how hot it is during the day, a cool breeze starts blowing in the late evening which makes the evening quite pleasant, called Shab-e-Malwa. Rainfall: S.W. Ujjain receives moderate rainfall of 30–35 inches (~80 cm) during July–September due to the monsoon.

General Boundaries

Ujjain district is bordered by Agar-Malwa districts in the north, Shajapur in the east, Indore in the south and Ratlam in the west.

Topology

Ujjain district has 11 tehsils: Ujjain Urban, Ujjain Rural, Ujjain Kothi Mahal, Ghatia, Tarana, Makdon, Mahidpur, Jharda, Badnagar, Khachrod and Nagda. The number of blocks in the district is 6 (containing 31 police stations). At present after delimitation of parliamentary and assembly constituencies, this district has 7 assembly constituencies: Ujjain (North), Ujjain (South), Khachrod-Nagda, Mahidpur, Tarana, Ghatia and Badnagar
