Shree Mahakaleshwar Temple

Out of the three sacredly worshipped Shivlingas of universe God Mahakaal of Ujjain has the greatest importance. Aakashe Tarakalingum, Paatale Haatkeshrum | Mrituloke Mahakalam , Sarvalingum Namostute || The Meaning is Tarakalinga is above the earth, haatkeshwarlinga beneath the earth and Mahakaal on the earth. The greatness of Mahakaal is all pervasive. Mahakaal is the originator of the whole universal. Our everlasting faith in god and religion has major cause in believing Mahakaal as the Supreme god on the earth. Mahakaal himself is the propagator of the kaal (Time). The rest Jyotirlings are also situated in important directions with specific angles. Mahakaal and Astrology Jyotirlings is not only a symbol of knowledge and light but also of astrological calculations. The center of this calculation is Mahakaal. There are 12 Jyotirlings, 12 Sun(Aditya), 12 months, 12 planets and 12th hours in kundali and all these are 12th hours of the kundali of India. Therefore these are sacred and worshiped for time immemorial and these 12 give equal results as those of the 12 hours of kundali. The resolution of the problems associated with the agents of the 12 kundali hours can be obtained by worshiping jyotirlings placed in 12 different places. The line of cancer (Kark) passes from Ujjain and in the form of whose center the temple of Karkrayeshwar is situated in Ujjain. Geographical Condition The World famous Mahakaleshwar Temple is 2 Km away from the Ujjain Railway station and is spread over a large area on the banks of river Kshipra. This is the only Jyotirling that has south facing. In the Garbhgriha of the Temple there are silver statues of Shri Ganesha, Shri Kartkeya and Parvati. On the inner wall of roof there is a Rudra Yantra which made up of 100 Kg Silver and just under this situates the Jyotirling. The statue of Nandi is at the front of the Garbhgriha gate. The bhasmarti takes place everyday at 4 am only in this temple. On every Monday during the Shravan, Mahakaleshwar the ruler of Ujjain takes a round of the city. The present Temple was built in the Maratha time but the nearly pond was built during the Parmar Time. History of the Temple Avanti Khand of the Skand Puran says that Mahakalh sarichhipra gatishev sunirmala , ujjainiyaa vishalaakshim vasaah kasya n rochte|| Snaanam krutva naro yastu mahanadhyanam he durlabham | Mahakaalam namskrutm naro mratyum n shochayet || Means who will not like the place where there is Mahakaleshwar, there is clean water of Kshipra. One does not fear from death on having Mahakaal Darshan after taking bath in Shipra.

Bade Ganesh Temple

A huge tall statue of Ganesh ji is situated near Mahakaleshwar. This is Modern and attractive near to this statue is the statue of PanchMukhi Hanuman made of sapta (seven) Dhatu (metal)

Shree Chintaman Ganesh Temple

It is situated 7 Kms away from the City on Ujjain-Fatehabad railway line. Road approach is available. The Ganesh Idol is believed to be Self Created. As the Statue is Ancient one, on every Wednesday of Chaitra Month, a large gathering of Pilgrims Come Here. It is believed that on seeing it every wish gets fulfilled and worry is eliminated. A special custom of offering the first marriage Card to the Chintaman Ganesh is practiced here.

Harsiddhi Temple

This Deity is the ever worshipped deity of King Vikramaditya. Harsiddhi has a specific importance in the ancient and sacred places of Ujjain. One of the 84 Siddh Places as per shiv Puran the Kohni (Elbow) of Devi Sati fell down here. As per Skand Puran in ancient time, Chanda Munda, the two Devils terrorized the whole country. After creating disturbance by them on Kailash Mountain, Shiv invoked deity chandi and she killed them. On this Happily Shiv praised her and declared Harasthmaah he chandi sanhato dusht daanvoo | Harsiddhi to loke namnaa khyatim gagishyati || that as she has killed the devils she will be named as Harsiddhi. Temple has four doors on all four sides. The main door is on the east, on south there is well which has a pillar bearing the march of 1947. Temple has the statue of deity Annapurna on the front of the Temple, two large and tall pillars with 726 light stands (Diyas) are situated. These give very picturesque sight during the Navratri.

Siddhavat

5 Kms away from the city, this famous siddh place is also ranked as paapmochan (Sin Purifier) teerth. As per purans,this vat(tree) was Planted by Parvati and she herself worshipped it and place is as important and famous as the Akshay Vat of Prayag and Gaya, Banshi Vat of Mathura and Vsindawan and Panchvati of Nashik. Sadhus of the Naath Cult also Worship here. It is believed that rituals that are performed after death like Shraadh, Pind, Tarpan, Pind Daan, Kaalsarp Shanti and Tripindi Shraadh, give special benefit if performed here.A resthouse and Restaurants is built for pilgrims and Travelers.

ISKCON Temple

Kal Bhairava Temple

This very ancient temple is situated on the bank of Kshipra and 4 Kms away from city. This place is one of the eight famous Bhairav places of Lord Shaiv cult. Traditionally Liquor is offered to Bhairav in the form of Prasad. This Place has a special significance for the Kapalik and Aughad Cult.

Gadkalika Temple

This Temple is 4 Kms away from the City. It is said that great poet Kalidas used to worship this same statue Goddess Kali. Temple has statue of Maa Kali, Lord Vishnu and Hanuman.This Temple is one of the ancient temples of Ujjain. Every Year on the Occasion of Both the Navratris, Thousands of Devotees gather here to perform the special worship rituals. This Place is a Siddhapeeth, one of out of 12 Siddhapeeths.

Mangalnath

On the Bank of River Kshipra and 5 Kms away from the city, this temple is, as described in the Matsya Puran the origin place of Mangal (Mars) planet. A special Worship rituals prayer is done here on every Tuesday which is attended by thousands of devotees who worship Mangal Linga.

Gopal Mandir

This is situated at the center of the city. It’s atop and Garbhgriha are made of marble with statues of Devi Rukmani on left side and of Shiv-Parvati on the right side. Temple has main statues of Gopal Krishna in Black Colour stone and of Radhika in white. There is Gemstone Plate on Door in Garbhgriha.On Vaikunth choudas the sawari (procession) of Mahakaleswar in the midnight comes to this temple as shiv goes and meets Gopal. This is called popularly as Harihar Milan (meet). After this the Sawari (procession) of Gopal ji comes to Mahakaleshwar on Bhasmarti and the tulsi dal is offered from the Gopal ji to Mahakaleshwar. This is called Harihar Milan. A special festival takes place here on Bhadrakrishna Janmashtami.

Navagraha Temple (Triveni)

It is situated on Ujjain-Indore Road, 5 Kms away from City. It has ancient statues of Navgrihas (Nine Planets). Pilgrims gather here on every Shanichari Amaavasya in large Number and take holy bath in Kshipra and after darshan as a custom they donate(leave off) their old cloths and footwear in order to get rid of bad effects of Shani.

Chaubis Khamba Temple

This Temple is situated near Mahakaleshwar temple on the way to Patni Bazaar. As it has 24 Pillars, it is called Choubis Khamba. On the both side of its ancient gate, the statues of Mahamaya Devi and Mahalaya Devi are placed. This Place is also associated with Devi Bhadrakaali.

Nagarkot Ki Rani

This guard deity is situated on South – West Corner of Ujjain. This place has archaeological importance and is associated to the tradition of the Naath cult. A pond of the Parmar time is there in front of temple. Two small temples of which one has the stale of god Kaartikeya are placed on the both sides of this pond. As this place is situated on the ancient parKota (boundary) of the city, it is called Nagarkot Ki Rani.

Rama-Janardana Temple

On the west to Ankpaat behind the Sandipani Ashram there is Vishnusagar and Shri RamJanardan Mandir situates near to this. This Picturesque place is famous for tourism. Out of the two temples which are here, in one statue of Shri Rama Lakshamana and Sita and in the other one the statues of Janardan Vishnu are placed. Built in the 17th Cen by Mirza raja Jaisingh this temple has a large pond in front. The Temple of Chitragupta and Dharmaraj Situate near by.

The Vedh Shala (Observatory)

On the bank of river Kshipra and 1 Km away from city the vedhshala is build which is also known by the names of Jantar Mantar and Yantra mahal. Astronomically and historically important, this place was built by king Jaisingh some 300 years ago. He was of the opinion that the planetary calculations must be accurate and for this he founded Vedhshalas at Jaipur, Kashi, Delhi and Mathura apart from Ujjain. Initially Ujjain Vedhshala had only four yantras (Machines) namely (1) Samrat Yantra (2) narivalay Yantra (3) Bhitti Yantra and (4) Digansh Yantra. Later on the fifth Yantra – the Shanku Yantra was added by using Samrat Yantra the local time which obtained through Surya (Sun) Ghadi (Clock) is converted in to the standard time in a table. The Digansh of Various Planets is obtained through the Digansh Yantra. Along with the knowledge of ancient artifice, the making of Panchang is taught here.
